Activists in Odesa Prepare Pushkin Monument for Easter
Today, April 13, Odesa activists organized a unique action at the monument to Russian poet Alexander Pushkin, located near the city hall on Primorsky Boulevard. They adorned the monument with a noose and hung a sign reading «Looking for a bulldozer».
According to a video that was shared, some locals were outraged by these actions.
«Are there no more problems?» – asked a man off-camera.
The outcome of the confrontation remains unclear.
As stated by Kateryna Musienko, head and founder of the youth organization «We Make You Nervous», the activists aimed to «prepare the Pushkin monument for Easter» in this unconventional way.
«Today, the activists from «We Make You Nervous» have prepared the Pushkin monument for Easter. They clearly indicated that the monument should be in a museum. We follow Ukrainian Easter traditions – we take out all unnecessary items from our homes!», – she wrote on her Facebook page.
She also stated that «the history of the Moscow Empire’s occupation should be studied in textbooks and museum exhibitions».
«Colonial monuments have no place on the streets of a Ukrainian city», – she is certain.
In her opinion, the city council, having the authority to dismantle the monument of the «Moscow figure», not only ignores its duties but even dares to renovate the monument's facade and plant flower beds around it.
«Let’s together help Trukhanov find the machinery to remove the marker of the «Russian world» in the center of Odesa! Tear off the number from the «Looking for a bulldozer» sign and call the mayor to speed up the process!», – Musienko urged.
