How to Obtain a Driver's License in Ukraine
Driving a car provides new opportunities for many Ukrainians. It enhances convenience and allows for the development of new skills. However, certain requirements must be met.
In Ukraine, there is no upper age limit for obtaining a driver's license, allowing older individuals to become drivers provided they have no medical contraindications. However, clear rules exist regarding the minimum age for obtaining a license.
According to Ukrainian legislation, training and obtaining a driver's license is possible from the age of 16 for categories A and A1, while other transport vehicles have different age restrictions.
Specifically, to obtain a license, one must be:
- 16 years old – category A1, A;
- 18 years old – categories B1, B, C1, C;
- 19 years old – categories BE, C1E, CE;
- 21 years old – categories D1, D, D1E, DE, T.
Step-by-Step Guide
To become a driver, you need to learn the traffic rules accordance with the standard training program. This can be done independently or at a driving school. After that, you will take a theoretical exam at the MVS service center. Upon successfully passing the theoretical test, the candidate undergoes practical training and takes the exam at the driving school, followed by the one at the MVS center.
To take the exams, prepare the following documents:
- Ukrainian citizen passport;
- medical certificate of fitness to drive;
- taxpayer identification number;
- existing driver’s license (if applicable).
The cost for the theoretical exam is 250 UAH, and for the practical exam is 420 UAH.
