Mistaken Emails About Ukrainian Status in the USA
This week, some Ukrainians in the USA on a humanitarian program received erroneous emails notifying them of the cancellation of their status.
According to Reuters, this has been reported by "European Truth".
The emails stated that their status had been revoked and they had a week to leave the country, or else "federal authorities will find you".
"If you do not leave the United States immediately, you will be subject to potential law enforcement actions that may lead to your removal from the United States. DHS is terminating your humanitarian status. Do not attempt to remain in the United States", the message read.
However, on Friday, April 4th, a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security stated that the email was sent in error and that the program for Ukrainians, established after the Russian invasion in 2022, had not been halted. It is unclear how many Ukrainians received this email.
On the same day, the Department of Homeland Security sent a follow-up email clarifying that the previous order was incorrect and that "the terms of your humanitarian status remain unchanged at this time".
It is noteworthy that in January, after Donald Trump took office as president, officials from the Department of Homeland Security ordered the suspension of several programs that allowed migrants to temporarily reside in the United States, including a key initiative for Ukrainian entrants.
