Honoring Ukrainian Volunteers: Their Importance and Significance

On March 14, Ukraine celebrates Volunteer Day – a day dedicated to remembering those who, in difficult times, chose to defend their homeland without being professional soldiers.

This date is significant as it marks the day in 2014 when the first volunteers left Maidan for the training base in Novi Petrivtsi to prepare for the fight for Ukraine's independence.

Today, our country faces severe challenges – armed aggression from Russia, and as always in the toughest times, brave individuals arise to protect their land, symbolizing heroism and self-sacrifice.

To commemorate Ukrainian Volunteer Day, a ceremony took place in Odesa, where flowers were laid at the Memorial to Fighters for Ukraine in the Glory and Freedom Square.

Throughout March, educational institutions and libraries will host cultural and scientific events dedicated to this important theme.

The decision to celebrate Ukrainian Volunteer Day was made by the Resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on January 17, 2017, aiming to strengthen the patriotic spirit and attention to the participants of volunteer formations.
