Massive Attack on Odesa Region: Consequences and Responses
On the night of February 4, the Russian military launched another massive attack on the Odesa region using strike drones. The energy infrastructure was damaged, and four individuals were injured.
The head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, Oleg Kiper, reported that the strike caused damage to energy facilities in the regional center. Emergency power outages are currently in effect in parts of the city. Utility services are working to deploy generators to restore critical infrastructure, including boiler houses. Additional resilience points are being established alongside the existing 425. Furthermore, two private houses and a business center were damaged due to debris and blast waves.
Three individuals sustained shrapnel wounds and fractures. They were transported to medical facilities in moderate condition. Another person who was in the business center during the attack suffered a concussion.
"All relevant services are working to eliminate the consequences of the attack. Law enforcement is documenting yet another crime by the Russians against the civilian population of Odesa region," noted Kiper.
The Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office stated that they have initiated a pre-trial investigation into the commission of war crimes (part 1 of article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). According to preliminary investigations, Russian armed forces attacked Odesa using drones, presumably of the Shahed-136 type, with the exact number being determined.
"Fires broke out at several addresses, which firefighters quickly extinguished. The difficulty in firefighting was exacerbated by repeated air alerts. Psychologists from the State Emergency Service worked with local residents," reported the SES, emphasizing that 80 rescuers and 17 units of equipment were involved in the elimination of the aftermath.
The city authorities announced that tram number 18 in Odesa has been temporarily suspended. Buses are operating on the route. Tram number 17 will run between Kulikovo Field and the 6th station of the Great Fountain with four units at intervals of 8-9 minutes.
