Mental Health Forum: New Perspectives for Ukraine
The resilience of individuals is closely linked to the stability of the system. This crucial message was discussed at the Mental Health Forum, which began on November 26 in Kyiv. Over three days, experts, government officials, community representatives, and international partners shared ideas on how to create an effective mental health support system in Ukraine.
Odesa region actively participated in this dialogue, presenting its contribution to the development of the nationwide mental health program "How are you?", initiated by the First Lady Olena Zelenska.
Our region was represented at the forum by:
- – Dmytro Radulov, Deputy Head of Odesa Regional State Administration,
- – Anna Velichko, Regional Coordinator of the "How are you?" program in Odesa,
- – Margarita Bespalko, Consultant in Dobroslav community,
- – Valentina Vitos, Director of the Odesa Regional Center for Ukrainian Culture.
During the opening of the forum, Olena Zelenska emphasized: "I thank everyone who, in various sectors and with diverse experiences, works together to support Ukrainians. Unfortunately, we cannot heal all wounds, but we can provide a sense of support and understanding to those in pain."
Ukraine is learning from international experience while simultaneously creating a unique system that meets the challenges of our time.
A particular pride of Odesa is the award for the Odesa Regional Center for Ukrainian Culture for its active involvement in the "How are you?" program.
The forum also presented a range of services that the state offers for mental health support and discussed new legislative initiatives in this area.
The forum was organized with the support of WHO, the Coordination Center of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine / Mental Health UA, as well as partners from the Netherlands, Canada, and France. Ukraine is confidently moving towards a system that cares for everyone.
