Arrest of Odessa Resident for Bribery in Medical Affairs
Under the supervision of prosecutors from the Black Sea District Prosecutor's Office, a 57-year-old resident of Odessa has been charged with receiving unlawful benefits for influencing a decision made by a person authorized to perform state functions (Part 2 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, the suspect, leveraging his connections among officials of city and regional clinical hospitals, offered a conscript to «resolve the issue» of obtaining medical documents necessary for establishing a disability group.
The wrongdoer assured that he could «assist» in the expedited processing of the required documentation and ensure the subsequent receipt of a pension certificate. The cost of such «service» was set at 8 thousand USD.
Law enforcement officers detained the suspect while he was receiving the first part of the bribe – 6500 USD.
The full circle of individuals involved in this illegal scheme is being established.
Efforts to uncover the criminal activity were carried out by prosecutors in conjunction with investigators from the 1st Division of the 2nd District Police Department of the National Police in Odessa Oblast, with operational support from the UCR in Odessa Oblast of the National Police of Ukraine.
Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
