Visit of the UN Mission in Odesa

In Odesa, a delegation from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Ukraine is visiting, led by humanitarian coordinator Mr. Matthias Schmale.

Today, October 15, 2024, delegation members visited the Social-Psychological Assistance Center for internally displaced persons and those affected by armed conflict, currently housing around 100 displaced individuals.

The UN representatives got acquainted with the living conditions, talking to the displaced individuals and the staff at the Center.

Besides comfortable living rooms, the Center is equipped with a psychologist's office, children's rooms for learning and recreation, large laundries, a kitchen, a dining area, and an assembly hall.

Regular workshops and various activities for children are held at the Center, while adults can acquire new skills and find employment.

As noted by the staff, charitable organizations and international missions provide comprehensive assistance to those temporarily residing here.

«We are concerned about the assistance to internally displaced persons. I see that this Center has created comfortable living conditions for those who had to leave their homes. It is one of the best centers in Ukraine,» said Mr. Matthias Schmale.

The advisor to the Odesa mayor on social and humanitarian issues, Veronika  Etnarovich, mentioned that the possibility of establishing another such Center in Odesa is currently being studied.
