Modernization of Electric Transport in Odesa: New Developments
The modernization and development of electric transport in Odesa remains a key focus for the city authorities.
Every day, around 80 trams operate across 13 routes, with the highest volume on the popular route No. 7 and the lowest – just 2 trams on route No. 20.
On September 30, 2024, another thoroughly renovated Tatra T3 tram was put into service.
«Despite the ongoing war, we continue to enhance public transport in Odesa. This tram was refurbished using the company’s own funds, costing Odesa City Electric Transport 4 million UAH, while a new tram costs around 18 million UAH. I appreciate the team’s efforts in these challenging conditions», said Odesa’s mayor, Hennadiy Trukhanov.
The renovated tram is completely updated both externally and internally, featuring a new management system that is 40% more efficient in operation.
The mayor also noted that there are plans to study the installation of mechanisms for wheelchair access on the older Tatra models.

The Tatra T3 tram was repaired in the workshops of KP «Odesmiskelektrotrans» at the company’s own expense. This is a unique example of capital repair.
For the first time, the interior of the salon and the driver's cabin have been completely updated during the capital repair, with new seating, a new heating system, and air conditioning in the driver's cabin, while the windows were installed using modern techniques. Plans are in place to renovate another similar tram by the end of 2024, and two more in 2025.
Additionally, at the beginning of 2024, two units of the Tatra T-3-Od model were successfully overhauled and are currently in operation on the «North – South» route. They underwent a capital-repair with modernization of the control system funded by the budget.
In 2025, a similar capital-repair and modernization is planned for four more tram units.
