Challenges for Kyivstar in 2025
The CEO of the mobile operator "Kyivstar", Oleksandr Komarov, indicated that the company is going through one of its toughest periods regarding electricity supply since summer 2024, with around 30% of its network lacking power. He shared this information on his Facebook page.
According to him, five regional technology centers are operating on generators. Overall, the network is functioning on battery backup (uninterruptible power supplies) and generators, with about 4% of sites experiencing downtime.
Komarov also advised Kyivstar internet users to ensure their routers have backup power to alleviate network stress during blackouts.
"As of mid-November, only 15-20% of Home Internet subscribers had arranged for backup power for their routers. During a recent full blackout in the Poltava region, the client backup was at a mere 2%.
Furthermore, everything is interconnected: users switch to mobile internet, increasing the load on base stations, which reduces their autonomous operation time and deteriorates the quality of mobile communication and data transmission speed," he noted.
