Fishing Restrictions in Odesa Region
Starting November 1st, fishing restrictions will be imposed on wintering pits in the Odesa region until the spawning season begins. This measure is essential for the preservation of aquatic resources during winter.
What is a wintering pit? It refers to specific areas on the bottom of water bodies where fish gather for winter. The boundaries of these pits are defined in accordance with fishing regulations in the Black Sea basin.
In wintering pits, the following activities are prohibited:
- any commercial fishing;
- recreational and sport fishing, even from the shore;
- movement of vehicles or motorboats.
According to paragraph 4 of section 3 of Rule IV of recreational fishing, during ice cover, it is forbidden to use fishing gear with hooks that have a distance between the shank and the tip exceeding 10 mm.
Violations may result in fines ranging from 34 to 680 UAH along with restitution for damages. For significant harm, criminal liability is imposed with fines from 17,000 to 85,000 UAH or imprisonment for up to three years with restitution for damages.
The Odesa fish protection patrol urges compliance with the law. Violations can be reported to the hotline: (098) 798-47-93.
