Minor Earthquake in Vrancea: Details Unveiled

A weak earthquake measuring 3.4 in magnitude was recorded in the Vrancea seismic zone at a depth of 125.7 km. Although the epicenter was in Romania, light tremors may have been felt by residents of the Odesa region due to the nature of wave propagation.

This morning, October 13, 2025, an earthquake occurred in Romania's Vrancea seismic zone, with its effects felt in the Odesa region as well. According to the Romanian National Institute of Earth Physics (INFP), the tremor was recorded at 08:36:22 local time, which corresponds with Kyiv time. Such events can pose risks to the southern regions of Ukraine, particularly Odesa, due to its proximity to this active zone.

"The earthquake occurred near the following cities: 30 km west of Focsani, 68 km north of Buzau, 80 km east of Sfantu Gheorghe, 84 km southwest of Barlad, 89 km southwest of Bacau, and 94 km east of Brasov", the report states.

According to INFP, the earthquake had a magnitude of 3.4 on the Richter scale, with its focus located at a significant depth of 125.7 km. While this earthquake is classified as minor and likely caused no damage in Romania, deep tremors in Vrancea often have a wide radius of seismic wave propagation. This means residents in northern and central Odesa, especially those living in high-rise buildings, may have felt slight vibrations.
