Elon Musk Announces Grokipedia: A New Competitor to Wikipedia
Elon Musk, the wealthiest person in the world, has announced the upcoming beta release of Grokipedia, a competitor to the well-known online encyclopedia Wikipedia, which will be available in just two weeks. He shared this news on social media platform X.
"The early beta version 0.1 of Grokipedia will be released in two weeks," Musk stated late Sunday, October 5.
According to NDTV, Grokipedia is being developed by xAI, one of Musk's companies and the creator of the AI chatbot Grok.
Musk made the announcement by retweeting a post from user @amXFreeze, which dubbed Grokipedia the "largest and most accurate source of knowledge in the world for humans and AI, with no usage restrictions".
"Grok utilizes a vast amount of computations for logical reasoning, reviewing sources like the Wikipedia page and asking itself: what of this is true, partially true, false, or what is missing?" reads the tweet from @amXFreeze.
Musk has repeatedly criticized Wikipedia's funding issues and editorial approach.
His proposal to use AI for "navigation to find the truth" has sparked mixed reactions on social media X.
While some users have expressed support for the new Wikipedia competitor, others warn that Grok's training data may lead to new biases.
As a reminder, in July, Musk's company xAI unveiled the new AI model Grok 4 and announced a new monthly subscription for the AI priced at $300.
