Government Simplifies Access to Open Data

The Ukrainian government has made a decision to ease access to open data by creating a centralized portal.

This was reported by the Ministry of Digital Transformation.

«Open data refers to the information collected, stored, and made available by government authorities in a convenient digital format, excluding personal or confidential details. This can include data on budgets, transportation, education, health care, or company registries. From now on, the most significant data of public value will be compiled into an updated unified list», the statement reads.

It is emphasized that this will facilitate quicker access to necessary information for citizens, businesses, and non-governmental organizations, allowing them to utilize the data for analytics, service development, or governmental oversight.

The updated regulations will also enhance the quality of data management by state agencies. They will receive clear guidelines for uploading information to the Unified Open Data Portal, making data more accessible to citizens and simultaneously reducing the potential for abuse by officials.

As previously reported, the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, YouControl, and the NGO «Open Data Association» (ASVIDA) have signed a trilateral memorandum on cooperation in the fields of statistics, analytics, and digitalization.
