Innovative Approaches to Youth Engagement

Transforming their approach to communication with youth, law enforcement officials arranged a vibrant and engaging retreat, emphasizing safety rules.
The children visited the Odessa opera and drama theaters, immersing themselves in the world of art and aesthetic beauty. They enjoyed leisure time in local parks and amusement rides. Additionally, an art therapy session was arranged with a physical therapy specialist, where they learned to express their emotions, overcome anxieties, and share their dreams through drawing and movement.
The atmosphere at the events was filled with trust and positivity: theatrical performances, thrills in the amusement park, group exercises, and humor helped the teenagers find inner balance and feel the care of adults.
At the same time, juvenile inspectors discussed important issues with the youth, such as offenses that children their age might engage in, including bullying, theft, and vandalism. They urged immediate reporting to the police for any offers that could lead to unlawful actions, such as arson. Law enforcement also reminded children of traffic rules, how to behave when discovering suspicious items, and the protocol during air raid alerts.
“The goal of such initiatives is not to re-educate, but to establish contact and mutual trust, creating conditions for personal transformation and awareness of responsibility,” said acting head of the juvenile prevention sector of the Odessa District Police Department No. 1, Yuriy Lukyantsuk. “These teenagers require extra attention, and it is our duty to ensure they feel safe and valued in society.”
