New Generation of Passenger Cars for Ukrzaliznytsia

The contracts initiating the production of 100 new passenger cars for "Ukrzaliznytsia" have been finalized.

This was reported by the press service of "Ukrzaliznytsia".

"The company has signed a contract with the domestic manufacturer, PJSC "Kryukov Car Building Works", for the procurement of new passenger car models that incorporate innovative technical and design solutions within the T gauge. In total, this year, 100 new passenger cars have been ordered under the relevant budget program", – the statement says.

The latest contracted cars will be capable of serving for an additional 20 years, feature extended maintenance intervals, and require less servicing and maintenance personnel, according to UZ.

Within the overall order of 100 cars, a pilot batch of 5 next-generation cars will have modern management systems, an almost 80% longer lifespan, and can accommodate more passengers — up to 44 in a single compartment car (+10% compared to standard cars).

The new cars will feature a wider body and improved layout with an increased length of sleeping space up to 2.2 m. Pneumatic suspension, which will be implemented for Ukrainian sleeping cars for the first time, will ensure additional ride smoothness and reduce swaying during movement. Automatic sliding doors and level floor inter-car transitions will enhance passenger comfort.

These cars will transition from coal heating to fully electric heating with advanced individual temperature control in each compartment. The modern system will allow for climate control even during extended train stops and in sections of the route with low speed.

The service life of these cars will be 50 years, thanks to the use of stainless steel for the car bodies. This is 20 years longer than for standard Ukrzaliznytsia cars.

Among the 100 cars being ordered, 5 will be compartment cars that can be transformed into SV-type cars. One car will be inclusive, featuring an electric lift, ramp for high platforms, and an enlarged compartment for travelers using wheelchairs.

"The cost of purchasing one passenger car is approximately 95 million hryvnias. The cost of a car with a compartment for transporting passengers with disabilities is 98.3 million hryvnias. However, when adjusted per seat and considering the significantly (by 80%) longer useful life of the car and increased maintenance intervals, the procurement of next-generation cars proves to be more economical and efficient than the purchase of standard cars", – the statement reads.

The delivery time for the cars is 2.5 years from the moment the manufacturer receives the advance payment for production (this includes necessary certification procedures for the new generation cars). With additional funding from the State Budget, Ukrzaliznytsia will be able to further expand its fleet renewal program, particularly increasing the share of next-generation cars.
