Emergency Services Report in Odesa Region: New Challenges and Discoveries
Over the past day, the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Odesa region recorded 48 different incidents. Among these were 43 fires and several cases where rescuers assisted elderly citizens. The most notable discovery was an anti-tank mine TM-62 from World War II found in the Peresyp district of Odesa.
According to the State Emergency Service, 48 incidents were recorded, of which 43 were fires: 3 in the city and 40 in the region. A significant number of rescue missions were for wildfires, with 38 callouts covering approximately 8.6 hectares, indicating a high risk of natural fires in hot weather.
"Total incidents - 48. Fires - 43. In the city - 3, in the region - 40 (including 38 responses to wildfires over an area of ~ 8.6 ha)," the SES reported.
Among other incidents, particular attention was drawn to cases where rescuers helped medics and the population. Yesterday morning in the city of Pivdenne on Khimikiv Street, rescuers transported a citizen born in 1960 from an apartment to an ambulance. In two other instances, rescuers had to open apartment doors to assist elderly women.
In the Khadzhybei district of Odesa on Ivan and Yuriy Lip Streets, rescuers opened the door to an apartment where a woman born in 1937 had fallen and could not get up. A similar situation occurred during the day in the city of Podilsk on Dalniy Lane, where rescuers helped a woman born in 1948 who also fell and could not get up by herself.
The most unusual event was the discovery of an explosive device from World War II. Yesterday afternoon in the Peresyp district of Odesa on Hrushevsky Street, one TM-62 anti-tank mine was found, which is scheduled for destruction today. Such findings remind of the region's military past and the need for caution during earthworks.
The statistics of incidents demonstrate the variety of challenges faced by Odesa's rescuers: from combating natural fires to assisting elderly citizens and retrieving obsolete munitions. The issue of wildfires remains particularly relevant under high temperature conditions.
