Remarkable Insights into Jackal Life
Exciting news about jackals has been shared on the official page of the “Tuzlivski Lymany” National Park in Odesa. A wildlife camera captured a young jackal (Canis aureus) exploring its surroundings.
According to park staff member Dr. Ivan Rusev, this golden dog is independently navigating the territory near the Black Sea without adult supervision.
Jackals pose no threat to humans and are not more harmful than wolves or foxes. They are small mammals, slightly larger than foxes but smaller than wolves, typically weighing around 12-14 kilograms. These omnivorous predators have a varied diet that includes fruits, insects, birds, rodents, and even carrion, as well as weak or injured larger predators.
