Dangerous Incident on the Railway: A Call to Parents
On June 26, a dangerous incident occurred at a railway station in the Odesa region involving a 13-year-old girl. She climbed onto an unmoving freight car and suffered an electric shock.
The Odesa regional police reported the incident. The girl was urgently taken to the hospital. An eyewitness informed the authorities about what happened.
"We once again urge parents to monitor their children's leisure activities and remind them that the railway is not a place for fun," stated the police.
Officers are currently investigating all the details surrounding the incident. They are also considering whether there will be any accountability for this case. Railway cars are under high voltage, and electricity can strike even without direct contact, simply from being too close.
This year, three tragic incidents involving teenagers have already occurred in the Odesa region: in the regional center, as well as in Odesa and Podil districts, where teenagers died or suffered serious burns after climbing onto stationary cars.
The head of the juvenile prevention department at the Odesa regional police, Viktoria Chalova, emphasized that even stationary objects in the railway infrastructure can pose a deadly risk due to high voltage. Electricity can affect not only through direct contact; sometimes, it's enough to get too close.
"Children often imitate what they see on social media. They don't realize that a few thousand likes are not worth the consequences — serious burns, loss of health, or even life," warned Viktoria Chalova.
