New Bridge Over the Danube: A Significant Step for Ukraine
A new bridge will be constructed across the Danube River in the southern Odesa region.
This was reported by CTS.
The bridge will be located in the village of Orlivka in the Izmail district, linking it with the Romanian city of Isakcha.
This project is included in the regional development strategy for 2025-2027, published on the Odesa Regional Council website.
The new bridge will be part of the international route E87, connecting Ukraine with Romania, Bulgaria, and Turkey.
Currently, drivers must take a long detour through Moldova, crossing the border twice. The new bridge is expected to reduce the distance to Isakcha by approximately 80 kilometers.
The construction of the Orlivka-Isakcha bridge will be an essential component of the southern transport corridor, linking Ukraine with the EU through Romania.
The construction is planned to be financed through international assistance, totaling over 12.6 billion hryvnias over three years. In 2025, 1.26 billion will be allocated, nearly 3.8 billion in 2026, and over 7.5 billion in 2027.
Upcoming steps include design work, environmental studies, the actual construction of the bridge, access roads, and establishing checkpoints and connections to international highways.
The future bridge will have four lanes, sidewalks for pedestrians on both sides, and will be resistant to earthquakes up to 9 points.
On the Ukrainian side, a 3 km access road will be constructed, while the Romanian side will have 950 meters.
