New Archaeological Ventures in Odesa Region

In the Odesa region, near the village of Orlivka in the Reni community, a new archaeological expedition has been launched by K.D. Ushinsky University. The studies are taking place at the necropolis known as «Kamiana Hora», located on the banks of the Lower Danube.

According to the university rector, Andrii Krasnozhon, this area has served as a key crossing between the Great Eurasian Steppe and the Balkans for five thousand years. Various civilizations have traversed this land, including the Cimmerians, Scythians, Sarmatians, Romans, Goths, Huns, and Bulgarians, as well as the armies of Persian king Darius and the Macedonian general Zopyrion.

“In archaeological terms, this site can be likened to a tectonic shift between two civilizational plates of East and West. It is a place of unprecedented concentration of remarkable treasures and archaeological layers from all eras and peoples…”, – stated the rector.

Professor Ihor Bruyako, a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute, has led the excavations for over 20 years.

This season marks the first time since the war began that history students and volunteers from other faculties have rejoined the research efforts.

“I wish you sensational discoveries! Touch the mysteries and breathe in freedom”, – noted Krasnozhon.
