Ukrainian Ports Achieve New Milestones in April 2025

Despite an increase in shelling, challenging logistics, and a general decline in production, Ukrainian ports processed 6 million tons of cargo in April 2025.

This was reported by Ukrinform, referencing the Administration of Seaports of Ukraine (AMPU).

What volume of cargo did Ukrainian ports handle in April 2024?

The majority of the cargo traditionally consisted of grain and ore.

According to the provided data, in April, Ukrainian ports processed 3.1 million tons of grain and 1 million tons of ore. Within the framework of the Ukrainian maritime corridor, 5.3 million tons of cargo were transported in April, of which 2.9 million tons were agricultural products.

According to AMPU data, the largest volumes of cargo handling were recorded in the ports of Greater Odesa. Specifically, the “Pivdennyi” port handled 2.4 million tons, the Chornomorsk port handled 1.8 million tons, and the Odesa port handled 1 million tons. The ports of the Danube region (Izmail, Reni, and Ust-Danube) processed about 800 thousand tons of cargo together.

Deputy Head of the State Enterprise “AMPU” Vyacheslav Kharkavenko noted that despite serious challenges, Ukrainian ports continue to demonstrate operational resilience even under high-risk conditions.

Among these challenges, he mentioned the reduction of sown areas due to the full-scale war, mining, and temporary occupation, as well as the decline in industry, particularly in metallurgy, where before the war, up to 80% of production was exported.

“Moreover, the spring period is traditionally characterized by a decrease in agricultural product exports – volumes start to rise from mid-summer. Despite the challenges listed, Ukrainian ports continue to fulfill their functions and remain a vital support for the country's economy,” Kharkavenko concluded.

Ukraine Resumes Ferry Services with Georgia After Three Years of War

Ukraine has resumed ferry connections with Georgia, successfully completing two voyages from the Chornomorsk port to the Georgian port of Batumi. These are the first such voyages since the onset of Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022.

In 2024, the bilateral trade volume between Ukraine and EU countries reached a record $17 billion.

Ukraine and 28 EU member states established a political and economic association, and in 2022, following the invasion, Ukraine applied for candidate status to join the EU.

The EU also reduced quotas on sugar imports from Ukraine, forcing producers to shift their focus to markets in Asia and the Middle East.
