New Park Initiative in Odesa: Azerbaijani Community's Vision
The Mayor of Odesa, Hennadiy Trukhanov, met with Aliyev Ayaz Ali Ogly, a member of the board of the public organization «Odesa Azerbaijani Diaspora «Birlik»».
During the meeting, they discussed the significance of realizing the Azerbaijani park project located near the 4th station of the Great Fountain. This green area, officially named «Azerbaijani Park» since 2013, was initially planned for landscaping, but its implementation was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and other circumstances.
The Azerbaijani diaspora in Odesa, which numbers over 30,000 individuals, has presented a new concept for the park. This includes not only the establishment of a recreational area but also the creation of a memorial in honor of Azerbaijanis who lost their lives in the war against Russia. All project costs are planned to be covered by the diaspora itself.
«We are ready to collaborate with partners, as there is already a good tradition of parks created by friends of our city in Odesa. This is how the Istanbul Park and the Greek Park came to be, and now we have the Azerbaijani one,» noted Hennadiy Trukhanov.
The park is expected to occupy an area of over 2 hectares and will be located next to the Odesa racetrack.
