Innovative Accessible Restrooms for People with Disabilities in Odesa
Odesa is planning to implement a project to create automated modular restrooms for people with disabilities. This initiative was discussed at the recent Barrier-Free Council meeting chaired by Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov.
The Department of Municipal Economy has examined the experiences of other Ukrainian cities, especially Kyiv, in implementing such facilities to make restrooms more accessible.
During the meeting, a module featuring two restrooms was presented: one designed to accommodate individuals in wheelchairs or those with strollers. This restroom is made of corrosion-resistant metal and equipped with an automatic cleaning system, motion sensors for various functionalities, and an automatic unlocking mechanism after 15 minutes. Additionally, it includes an operator call button and a module for cashless payments.
The proposal to install such automated restrooms at Soborna Square, in the City Garden, along Prymorsky Boulevard, and on the Avenue of Ukrainian Heroes will be put forward for consideration at the Odesa City Council session.
