Enhancement of Odessa's Green Spaces: New Achievements of Municipal Enterprise
Every day, around 180 workers from the Municipal Enterprise "Miskzelentrest" are active on the streets of Odessa, maintaining the cleanliness of green areas, caring for trees and flower beds, addressing the aftermath of bad weather, planting new trees, and beautifying the city with flowers.
Since the beginning of the year, the staff has pruned 81,187 rose bushes and performed formative pruning on 464 weeping ornamental trees.
On the areas under their jurisdiction, the enterprise has sown lawn grasses across 18,723 sq. m, weeded flower beds totaling 164,183 sq. m, and removed 2,519 dry branches from trees. Additionally, they have cleaned up random litter over an area of 42,988 ha, clearing lawns of branches, leaves, and debris totaling 164.68 cubic meters.
Traditionally, with the arrival of spring, the gardeners of Municipal Enterprise "Miskzelentrest" begin creating floral compositions. This year, 2,880 sq. m of spring flower beds were planted with seedlings (daisies, selene, violets, and others). Once the spring flowers fade, the gardeners replace them with summer blooms. They created 4,117 sq. m of summer flower beds using seedlings (salvia, tagetes, geranium, cineraria, ageratum, coleus, and others). Additionally, 41,476 perennial plants (chrysanthemums, miscanthus, yucca, hydrangeas, irises, burning bushes, and more) were planted.
Last summer, the city was adorned with 88 vertical flower pots.
All floral seedlings for the spring and summer flower beds, as well as flowers for vertical landscaping, are annually grown in the enterprise's greenhouses named "Rose".
Furthermore, "Miskzelentrest" continues its work on greening the streets, parks, and squares of the city. In 2024, a total of 3,246 trees were planted (3,102 deciduous: maple, ash, acacia, sophora, catalpa, chestnut, soap tree; 144 conifers: thuja, juniper, pine), as well as 3,104 shrubs: lilacs, mahonia, cotoneaster, buxus, barberry).
The planting of trees and shrubs took place across all districts of the city. All planted trees are over 10 years old, which significantly increases the likelihood of seedling survival in urban conditions.
The enterprise regularly conducts maintenance of park furniture, playgrounds, and sports grounds located in Odessa's parks and squares.
To ensure the health and attractiveness of the urban green spaces, the workers regularly dismantle advertising signs placed on trees in parks and squares. Typically, these advertisements are affixed to trees with metal nails, complicating their removal and leading to various plant diseases.
