Conference in Odesa: Combatting Diabetes
The Mayor of Odesa, Hennadiy Trukhanov, participated in a significant conference dedicated to World Diabetes Day.
According to the World Health Organization, diabetes ranks among the top three diseases leading to disability and death. Timely detection of diabetes can significantly reduce the risks of complications.
The event saw the attendance of healthcare professionals as well as families of children suffering from diabetes, who receive comprehensive support. Discussions were held on the latest advancements in diabetes management.
«Despite the ongoing war, Odesa continues to strive for improving the quality of life for people with diabetes and raising awareness about the condition. We are open to implementing modern solutions and technologies that will enhance the lives of our children, while also promoting preventive measures that encourage a healthy lifestyle among youth», said the Mayor of Odesa.
In Odesa, more than 30,000 adults and children are living with diabetes. Among them, nearly 5,000 patients are insulin-dependent and receive therapy, including over 400 children.
- All diabetes patients have access to necessary medications through the government program "Affordable Medicines".
- A «Diabetes School» operates at the Reznik Children's Center.
- The City Health Program has procured insulin pumps and supplies for children with type 1 diabetes.
- Free continuous glucose monitoring systems are provided to children.
- Free awareness campaigns are conducted to promote prevention and early detection of diabetes.
- A project aimed at increasing teachers' awareness about diabetes has been launched.
