Early Cancer Detection: A Lifesaving Opportunity

Cancer is treatable in its early stages: timely detection of oncological diseases allows for early diagnosis, increases the chances of successful treatment, and saves lives. The Medical Guarantee Program provides access to free preventive screenings, regardless of residence. This was reported by the National Health Service of Ukraine (NHCSU).

Early diagnosis of common cancers is a priority and includes free services for cancer screening, such as:

  • mammography – X-ray examination of breast tissues to detect abnormalities;
  • hysteroscopy – examination of the uterus to identify pathologies at early stages;
  • esophagogastroduodenoscopy – examination of the stomach and esophagus to detect inflammations and new formations;
  • colonoscopy – inspection of the colon to identify abnormalities;
  • cystoscopy – examination of the bladder with the option for biopsy;
  • bronchoscopy – examination of the airways to detect diseases.

Residents of Kyiv, including internally displaced persons, can access early detection services at medical facilities contracted with the NHCSU. To receive the service, the doctor provides an electronic referral.

Diagnostic screenings for prevention may be conducted based on patients' ages: for mammography and colonoscopy – from 40 years old, for other screenings – from 50 years old.

Internally displaced persons, like other residents, have access to anesthesia, consultations, biological material collection, and reporting of research results. If necessary, patients can be referred for specialized medical assistance.
