Child Safety: Attention to Poisoning Incidents

The Odesa Regional Emergency Medical Center has reported a rise in cases of accidental poisoning of children by household chemicals and medications in recent weeks.

«Children left unsupervised may accidentally consume cleaning agents, open medication bottles, or handle hazardous substances. Such situations can lead to chemical burns and acute poisoning,» the statement reads.

For instance, a 3-year-and-11-month-old boy ingested a household cleaning product, resulting in a chemical burn to his mouth and hospitalization. A 1-year-and-8-month-old girl bit into a bottle of eye drops and was admitted to the hospital with acute oral poisoning, while another one-year-old girl accidentally drank a grease cleaning agent, leading to a suspected esophageal burn and hospitalization in moderate condition.
Additionally, two 1-year-and-3-month-old twin boys were poisoned by a rodenticide. Their condition is stable, and they have been hospitalized for observation.

The Emergency Medical Center urges parents to closely supervise their children, explain the dangers of consuming unknown substances, keep medications and household chemicals out of reach, and to call 103 immediately if poisoning or burns are suspected. Every minute can save a child's health and life.
