New Eye Trauma Center Opens in Odesa
In the city of Odesa, with the support of the Department of Health, a new eye trauma center has been launched at City Clinical Hospital No. 10. This facility will provide specialized medical assistance to residents and visitors around the clock.
The trauma center will assist with: domestic and industrial eye injuries, cuts, burns, chemical injuries, removal of foreign bodies, and sudden vision deterioration after trauma. All medical services are provided free of charge under the state medical guarantee program.
Starting from September 2025, Hospital No. 10 will also introduce another medical service – ophthalmology. The eye trauma center will ensure prompt specialized ophthalmic care. Additionally, the hospital's planned ophthalmology office will continue to operate, having been upgraded to meet modern medical standards.
A separate ward and procedure room have been created in the polytrauma department for patients with combined eye injuries. The operating block is equipped with the latest ophthalmic instruments for a wide range of surgical interventions, including cataract and glaucoma treatments.
“The hospital is acquiring new medical services that are essential for cluster institutions under the national health system reform for improving the quality of medical assistance,” said the director of Hospital No. 10, Denis Sebov.
Thus, Odesa now has its own comprehensive eye care service. This is particularly crucial during wartime, as the risk of eye injuries increases due to enemy attacks.
The opening of the eye trauma center marks a significant advancement for Hospital No. 10 and strengthens the emergency medical system in Odesa. As part of the city’s health program, sets of lenses and other medical devices for cataract surgery will be purchased, which residents can receive at no cost.
The new ophthalmology service was presented at a conference discussing its structure, capabilities, and integration with other medical facilities in the city. A master class on ophthalmoscopy was also conducted for doctors.
