New Educational Initiative: University and Schools Collaboration

A new program aimed at increasing youth interest in the natural sciences will commence in the next academic year. This initiative was taken by the mayor of Odessa, Gennadiy Trukhanov, and the rector of ONU, Vyacheslav Truba, who signed a cooperation memorandum. The Department of Education and Science of the Odessa City Council initiated this project.

According to the memorandum, schools will have the opportunity to sign individual contracts with the university to attract instructors in physics and other natural science disciplines. The collaboration will cover pre-profile training for grades 7-9 and specialized education for grades 10-11. Additionally, there are plans to organize research activities with students who demonstrate abilities in relevant fields.

The city council noted that the Institute of Physics has the necessary resources, including specialists and equipped laboratories, to provide quality education. Meanwhile, schools face a shortage of qualified teachers in natural sciences, particularly physicists, hence this project will partially address the staffing issues in educational institutions.
