Understanding School Year Adjustments
Recently, social media and news outlets circulated claims about a potential shortening of school holidays for students in 2025.
The Ministry of Education and Science dismissed these reports, stating that the length of the academic year is determined by each individual school.
They confirmed that, according to government regulations, the academic year runs from September 2, 2024, to June 30, 2025. However, these dates are merely guidelines and not fixed deadlines.
“These dates, along with the academic year structure and holiday schedules, are determined not by the government but by the schools themselves. This flexibility has been part of the legislation for many years,” the ministry added.
In fact, schools have the autonomy to decide when to conclude the academic year for their students.
The teaching council takes into account:
- overall academic load;
- security conditions in the region;
- individual students' needs;
- teachers' readiness.
