Remembering Sergey Olizarenko: A Tribute to a Great Athlete
On December 18, 2024, Ukraine faced an irreplaceable loss with the passing of renowned athlete Sergey Olizarenko, who represented the country at the 1980 Summer Olympic Games.
At the Olympics, Sergey competed in the 3000 meters steeplechase, where he finished third in the semifinals with a time of 8:34.2, allowing him to qualify for the finals. Unfortunately, due to an Achilles tendon injury, he was unable to compete in the final race.
Sergey was happily married to Olympic champion Nadia Olizarenko.

The farewell ceremony for Sergey Olizarenko will take place on December 21, 2024: at 10:30 AM – a service at the Holy Assumption Cathedral (70 Preobrazhenska St.), at 12:00 PM - cremation at the Tairov Cemetery.
