Medal Contests at the Ukrainian Fencing Cup
From October 15 to 20, the Ukrainian Fencing Cup took place in Kyiv, marking the first national competition of the 2025-2026 season for adult athletes.
The tournament was held at the CSK ZSU sports complex and gathered 345 participants, including 153 women and 192 men.
The Ukrainian Cup was won by Odesa sabre fencer Alina Komashchuk (coaches – Oleksandr Vasyutin and Mykyta Stolbunov). In the final, she triumphed over last year’s champion Oleksandra Bondar from Mykolaiv. In the semifinals, Alina defeated Daria Hontsova from Cherkasy with a score of 15:9. This marks Alina's second victory at the Ukrainian Cup.
In the men's competition, Andriy Yahodka (coach – Oleksandr Vasyutin) earned a silver medal. He achieved 10 consecutive wins in the tournament (6 in the pool, 4 in the main draw), but fell short against Kyiv's Oleksiy Statsenko in the final, losing 5:15. Previously, Andriy had won 8 of the last 10 Ukrainian Cups.
