Preparing for the School Year in Odesa: Safety and Innovations
As the new academic year approaches, educational institutions in Odesa are undergoing intensive preparations.
The primary focus is on child safety: currently, 90 out of 120 schools have their own shelters. Modernization efforts are ongoing.
A notable example is School No. 62, where engineers successfully relocated complex communication systems, deepened the basement floor, and strengthened the foundation. Now, over 500 children can learn simultaneously in their beloved school.
The shelter will also be open to local residents.
At School No. 122, the existing shelter is being expanded, the gym is being renovated, and STEM laboratories are being established — steps that emphasize not only protection but also educational development and early specialization.
Both schools previously suffered from shelling. Today, educators and builders are fully restoring their functionality.
“We are not just repairing walls; we are creating a safe, comfortable, and inspiring environment where children want to grow and develop,” commented Deputy Mayor of Odesa Pavlo Vuhelman.
This year, nearly 325 million UAH have been allocated for repair work in the city's education sector. Work is also ongoing at Lyceum No. 125 and Mykhailivskyi, Gymnasium No. 12 and No. 61.
Thanks to international partners, Kindergarten No. 14 is being restored, while Kindergarten No. 29 is already welcoming children.
“Thank you to everyone involved — educators, builders, deputies, parents, and partners. Childhood is one, and caring for it is the true meaning for Odesa,” said the Director of the Department of Education and Science, Olena Buinevych.
