Alexander Volodymyrovych Bleschunov was a remarkable individual, an engineer, and a well-known mountaineer. His name is associated with a pass in the Eastern Pamirs and a peak at the junction of the Garma and Vavilov glaciers. In addition to mountaineering, Bleschunov dedicated much of his life to collecting art pieces.
At the end of his life, he gifted his collection to his hometown. On January 28, 1989, the Museum of Personal Collections was opened in Odessa, which has been known as the O. V. Bleschunov Municipal Museum of Personal Collections since 1992.
This unique collection includes over 10,000 items, including world-class rarities, and is part of the State Museum Fund of Ukraine. In recognition of Alexander Bleschunov's contributions to the city, his star was ceremonially unveiled on the Walk of Stars in Odessa on September 2, 2019.
