Collaboration between Odesa and Vienna: Preserving Cultural Heritage
During a working visit, Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov and Director of the Department of Culture, International Cooperation, and European Integration Ivan Liptuga met with the first president of the Vienna Parliament, Ernst Woller, and head of the Office of European and International Relations of Vienna, Alena Sirka-Bred.
For many years, Odesa and Vienna have maintained fruitful partnerships, particularly in the fields of culture and heritage preservation.
Mr. Woller shared Vienna's experiences in preserving architectural monuments and managing World Heritage Sites, specifically the «Historic Centre of Vienna».
He emphasized the importance of preserving history for future generations in every city.
Austria has faced challenging historical periods but has managed to retain its architecture and cultural achievements while adapting contexts, always preserving the legacy for future generations.
«Vienna is rightfully considered a global capital of culture and art, while also receiving top awards in smart urban innovation competitions,» Mr. Woller noted.
As Hennadiy Trukhanov remarked, Odesa is a city rich in culture, literature, and music. This year, the festival «Golden Violins of Odesa» celebrates its tenth anniversary and will take place in Vienna.
«We are very pleased that our anniversary festival «Golden Violins of Odesa» will be held in the capital of Austria. The experience of Vienna in balancing heritage preservation and urban development is invaluable for Odesa, which is currently developing its management practices for World Heritage sites amidst the ongoing war,» emphasized Hennadiy Trukhanov.
