New Social Taxi Service in Odessa
Odessa has welcomed a humanitarian cargo from its sister city Regensburg – two Mercedes-Benz Sprinter minibuses.
These vehicles will be assigned to territorial centers for social services and will be utilized by the municipal service «Social Taxi».
The minibuses are already equipped for transporting individuals with disabilities but require additional equipment for accommodating wheelchair users.
«Social Taxi» is an initiative by the Odessa city authorities, implemented in collaboration with the NGO «Barrier-Free», which provides specialized transportation for individuals with disabilities to administrative, banking, and social institutions.
Currently, six specialized vehicles operate in Odessa. The service is in high demand, having processed over 1200 requests. The minibuses donated by Regensburg will allow for an increase in transportation capacity and service opportunities.
«Thank you to Regensburg! Odessa appreciates the support and our long-standing friendship. This is not just transportation; it’s a chance for Odessa residents with disabilities to have comfortable access to necessary services, feel mobile and independent,» said Odessa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov.
Individuals with disabilities can order the social taxi using the MISTO app or by calling the short number: 15-01.
