Stay Safe During Icy Conditions
The city authorities of Odesa remind residents about the importance of following personal safety rules during icy conditions:
- Wear comfortable shoes with a sturdy, preferably textured, sole. Avoid high heels or stilettos.
- Move cautiously over icy surfaces. It’s better to avoid slippery areas. Walk slowly, keeping your knees slightly bent and your weight distributed evenly on your feet.
- Be especially careful when crossing streets—do not run. Remember that a vehicle's stopping distance increases significantly on icy roads.
- At bus stops, stand away from the road's edge to prevent slipping and falling onto the roadway.
- Do not keep your hands in your pockets while walking, as this increases the risk of injury during a fall. When going down stairs, hold onto the handrail.
- Pregnant women are advised not to go out without a companion.
