Workshops on Traditional Crafts in Odesa

On October 15–16, workshops dedicated to preserving and promoting traditional crafts of our region took place at the Odesa Regional Center of Ukrainian Culture.

The goal of the event was to raise awareness about the intangible cultural heritage of Odesa, showcasing that folk culture is a living part of our present.

Participants had the chance to engage hands-on with authentic crafts:

  • Pottery — creating clay jugs on a pottery wheel;
  • Clay modeling — making traditional whistles;
  • Steppe Southern painting — fabric painting with acrylics.

The workshops were led by experienced artisans — bearers of intangible cultural heritage and laureates of the Regional Prize named after Rostislav Paletsky. Their passion for the craft brought together hundreds of attendees — from schoolchildren to students and educators.

What was planned as two hours of creativity turned into three, as clay, paints, and inspiration kept everyone engaged.

The event was organized with the involvement of the Odesa Regional Development Agency, supported by the Swiss-Ukrainian project «Cohesion and Regional Development of Ukraine» (UCORD), implemented with the support of Switzerland through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the company NIRAS Sweden AB.

Traditions are our connection between generations and inspiration for creating the present while preserving our Ukrainian roots.
