Tram Modernization in Odessa: New Opportunities for Passengers
The city of Odessa is launching a new project to equip trams with lifts.
The first upgraded tram is already operating on route No. 15. By the end of the year, two more vehicles are set to be modernized, with the specialists of KP "OMET" implementing innovative lifting mechanisms currently undergoing patenting.
As stated by the mayor, Gennady Trukhanov, participation in the InnTrans exhibition in Berlin served as a catalyst for addressing a long-standing issue in the transportation sector of post-Soviet countries.
The "Tatra" tram model is considered one of the best versions of Czech engineering, continuing to be in service even in Prague after modernization. Inclusive technologies developed by Odessa engineers allow these trams to meet contemporary standards for comfortable transportation for individuals with disabilities.
Prior to the tram modernization, extensive discussions were held with key users of the lifting mechanisms — veterans, representatives of mobility-impaired groups, and individuals using wheelchairs along with their companions.
According to the participants’ feedback, the new mechanism is expected to be both convenient and reliable. The KP "OMET" workshops will commence the series installation of lifts on the upgraded trams.
