Safety First: Tips for Youth
Law enforcement continues its active efforts to educate youth about the importance of safe behavior both in real life and online. In the Podilskyi district of Odesa region, they organized a series of educational events in recreational areas. For those enjoying time by water bodies, they stressed the need to swim only in designated areas, the dangers of diving, the importance of using rescue equipment, and being cautious about themselves and their friends.
For park-goers, they provided reminders about appropriate conduct in public spaces. They urged not to litter, not to damage property, not to disturb other visitors, and to avoid using offensive language. Special attention was given to traffic rules. Together with cyclists and pedestrians, police reiterated the basic safety requirements: crossing roads only at designated spots, being vigilant at intersections, and using reflective elements after dark. They also touched upon digital safety. Law enforcement urged young people to be cautious online: not to share personal information, not to trust strangers, and to inform parents about inappropriate proposals, such as setting someone else's property on fire or filming violent content.
«Our goal is to warn and protect children from troubles. At the same time, I want to remind parents that they are responsible for their children's behavior. Teach them to enjoy safely and respectfully, setting an example yourself,» said Ruslan Terletskiy, head of the juvenile prevention sector of the Podilskyi District Police Department.
The Odesa police call on parents and all caregivers to be attentive to children, to maintain open dialogue, and to not overlook even minor warning signs of danger. Collective care is the best prevention.
