Human Rights Forum Held in Odesa

A regional event titled «Human Rights Initiatives in Times of Armed Conflict» took place in Odesa.

This forum brought together representatives from various state and local authorities, law enforcement, diplomats, as well as volunteers, activists, and business leaders to discuss pressing issues and devise solutions that reduce vulnerability, support rehabilitation, and provide real assistance.

The event was organized by the regional office of the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights.

Maria Popova, the Commissioner’s representative in the Odesa region, shared the outcomes of the previous year’s work.

In 2024, the most frequent inquiries were related to the rights of military personnel and their families. Consequently, today’s discussions are focused on the following key topics:

  • ensuring the rights of service members,
  • veteran rehabilitation programs,
  • support for families and children of fallen defenders.

«Protecting human rights is not just a slogan for us; it’s a daily commitment. We must support those who have sacrificed their health for our country, those who need special attention today. Justice means not only supporting those who fought but also preventing the exploitation of their heroism for personal gain. Those who hide behind their achievements, neglecting responsibility, will inevitably face societal consequences,» said Odesa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov.
