New Partnership Established Between Odessa and Heidelberg
On May 19, 2025, Odessa's mayor, Gennady Trukhanov, visited the German city of Heidelberg, where a significant event took place - the signing of a partnership agreement between the two cities.
This document was signed by Gennady Trukhanov and his German counterpart, Mr. Eckart Würzner.
During his speech, the mayor expressed gratitude to the German partners for their support, especially in the context of the war that Ukraine is fighting for its freedom.
Gennady Trukhanov also spoke about the challenges faced by the city during the war and the importance of international cooperation, particularly with cities in Germany.
«Collaboration is incredibly important for us. We are open to joint initiatives and projects. Together with Heidelberg, we are already planning specific actions, including the rehabilitation of veterans through adaptive sports, as well as cultural and educational projects. We are grateful for the solidarity and confident that our partnership will exemplify the unity of European cities», - emphasized Trukhanov.
The Heidelberg municipality also provided Odessa with municipal and fire-fighting equipment, marking the first step in a larger collaborative effort planned during the negotiations.
