Commemorating Heroes: Day of Remembrance and Victory
Today, May 8th, Odessa commemorated the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism, honoring the memory of those who laid down their lives for the freedom, sovereignty, and independence of Ukraine.
Over a decade ago, Ukraine embraced the European tradition of commemorating the victory over Nazism by honoring the fallen in World War II from 1939 to 1945 rather than celebrating. The memory of the war should cultivate an appreciation for peace and encourage its unwavering defense. Today, Ukraine is fighting against aggression that threatens not only its independence but also international law and global security. The only path to restoring peace is to defeat the aggressor.
