Collaboration with Korean Corporation to Enhance Odesa's Infrastructure

Through the support of the State Agency for Restoration and Development of Infrastructure of Ukraine, a meeting took place in the Kyiv office of the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine between the Mayor of Odesa, Hennadiy Trukhanov, and his deputy Anna Pozdnyakova with representatives of the South Korean corporation POSCO E&C, one of the leaders in infrastructure construction.

The corporation has built over 30 waste incineration plants in various countries. According to Anna Pozdnyakova, one of the most valuable experiences is the plant built in Warsaw, which she visited during a business trip in March. It was constructed in accordance with European legislation and EU environmental standards, into which Ukraine is integrating its national laws. The comprehensive waste management approach implemented in Warsaw aligns with the concept that Odesa is studying.

This marked the first dialogue with POSCO E&C representatives regarding the potential construction of a waste incineration plant in Odesa.

“We have strong ties with Ukraine and have already implemented projects in the metallurgy and agribusiness sectors, particularly in Mykolaiv region, and we hope for further active collaboration,” noted Vice President of the South Korean corporation Mr. Kim Yong Hyun.

The infrastructure project has already been approved by the relevant ministry and included in the city's heating supply scheme. As a result of the negotiations, the parties agreed to work on the organizational and technical issues necessary for the project's implementation.

“We have the support of the state and all the prerequisites for implementing this important project for Odesa. I hope we can start it as soon as possible. Firstly, it is an environmental initiative, and secondly, it involves the construction of generation capacities for thermal and electrical energy, which are critically needed for our city,” said Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov.
