Decline in Electricity Consumption in Ukraine

As of the morning of April 21, electricity consumption in Ukraine has dropped by 12.6% compared to April 18.

NEC “Ukrenergo” reported on social media that electricity consumption continues to decline in Ukraine, as noted by Ukrinform.

“Electricity consumption has decreased. Today, April 21, as of 9:30 AM, its level was 12.6% lower than the previous working day — on Friday. The reason is a non-working day declared by some employers,” - the agency quoted the company’s statement.

Additionally, warm weather and sunny conditions across Ukraine are leading to reduced electricity demand from the overall grid.

Ukrenergo recommends shifting active electricity consumption to periods of maximum efficiency of solar power plants, using high-powered devices from 8 AM to 6 PM.

It’s worth mentioning that last week, on April 15, the heating season 2024/2025 officially ended in Ukraine.

Heat supply was stopped in all regions, but some social institutions – hospitals, kindergartens, schools – will continue to receive heating under certain temperature conditions.

How many times has Russia attacked Ukraine's energy system during the heating season?

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced the successful completion of the third heating season during the full-scale war, despite numerous Russian attacks on the country's energy system.

According to him, during the 2024/2025 heating season, Russia carried out 9 massive and dozens of smaller attacks on the Ukrainian energy system.

“And despite all this, we stood strong. In the homes of millions of Ukrainians, in schools and hospitals, there was light and heat. Our enterprises also operated without significant restrictions,” − said the Prime Minister.
