Revamping "Ukrposhta": New App Launch on the Horizon

The national postal operator "Ukrposhta" plans to introduce a revamped mobile application with advanced features by the end of June this year.

According to the CEO Ihor Smiliansky in an interview with Forbes Ukraine, the new app is a key priority for the company in 2025.

"We aim to launch the application by the end of the first half of the year. It will not only track packages but will also allow interaction with customs, display estimated delivery dates, and enable document confirmations as well as viewing the history of shipments and payments," he stated.

It is known that the launch of the new "Ukrposhta" app was initially scheduled for 2024, but was postponed due to various reasons. The old app has low ratings on the App Store and Google Play. One of its major issues is the lack of notifications regarding package status. The new app is expected to offer the ability to redirect packages to different branches, which currently can only be done via phone or at postal offices.

Additionally, Ihor Smiliansky revealed that approximately 1 billion UAH was invested in automation in 2024. "This amount includes guarantees for five years, and all of it is our own funding," he emphasized.

According to him, now over 90% of packages arrive on time. "I measure the effect of automation by monitoring social media. Previously, there were dozens, even hundreds of comments on my posts about how poorly "Ukrposhta" delivered. In the last two months, there have been almost none. This is the most honest indicator for me, as it cannot be faked. We have completed full automation, and we are currently improving the IT system so that customers can see the estimated delivery date at the time of shipment," summarized Ihor Smiliansky.

It is worth noting that in February 2025, "Ukrposhta" fully automated its parcel sorting process. In January 2025, the government transferred shares of the First Investment Bank, previously owned by Russian oligarchs, to the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development, with the subsequent transfer to "Ukrposhta". This way, the postal operator will be able to establish its own banking institution. Earlier, Ihor Smiliansky stated that after creating its own bank, the capitalization of "Ukrposhta" would increase, allowing it to build an Amazon-like platform in the Ukrainian format. It is also important to mention that last year "Ukrposhta" reported a revenue of 12.98 billion UAH, which is 8% higher than nearly 12 billion in 2023. However, taking into account an annual inflation rate of 14.6%, the real growth turned into a decline - resulting in a loss of 387 million UAH for 2024.
