Return of Ukrainian Soldiers' Bodies: Latest Updates
Ukraine has successfully retrieved 909 bodies of fallen soldiers who perished across different combat zones.
This was announced by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
Details on the return of deceased soldiers' bodies in Ukraine
The bodies of warriors have been returned from the following areas:
- Kurakhiv
- Pokrovsk
- Bakhmut
- Vuhledar
- Luhansk
- Zaporizhzhia
- Sumy
- Kharkiv.
Additionally, bodies have been retrieved from morgues located in Russia.
The repatriation of bodies was carried out with the assistance of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, the Ministry of Reintegration, the Missing Persons Commissioner, along with the Joint Center at the SBU, the Ukrainian Armed Forces' Central Military Medical Commission, and various law enforcement agencies and international organizations.
The bodies will be transported to designated state institutions, where law enforcement and forensic experts will identify the deceased.
Subsequently, the bodies of the fallen defenders of Ukraine will be handed over to their families for burial.
Previous repatriation efforts - what is known
On March 28, 909 bodies of fallen Ukrainian soldiers were successfully returned.
On February 14, Ukraine retrieved 757 bodies of Ukrainian soldiers who perished in various directions.
On January 24, 757 bodies of Ukrainian soldiers who died in various directions were returned.
On December 20, 503 bodies of Ukrainian soldiers who died in various combat zones were returned.
On November 29, 502 bodies of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were repatriated from different fronts.
On November 8, 563 bodies of Ukrainian soldiers were returned from various directions.
On October 18, Ukraine returned 501 bodies of soldiers who died in different combat zones.
On August 2, 250 bodies of fallen soldiers were retrieved from the Luhansk, Bakhmut, Marinka, Avdiivka, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia regions, as well as from Mariupol and Horlivka, and from morgues in Russia.
On June 14, as a result of repatriation efforts, Ukraine received 254 bodies of fallen defenders, which will be handed over to their families after identification.
