Animal Cruelty Incident: Shooting in Bereziv Community

An incident of animal cruelty has been reported in the Bereziv community, where a man shot a neighbor's dog with an air rifle. He may face imprisonment for this act.

The event occurred in February when a local resident heard whimpering and discovered the dog’s body in a neighboring yard. She immediately reported it to the police.

Investigators found that a 25-year-old man from a nearby village, visiting friends, learned during drinking that the dog was allegedly eating chickens. To punish the animal, he retrieved an air rifle from his car and shot the dog, hitting it in the eye.

A forensic veterinary examination confirmed that the dog died from cerebral edema caused by the gunshot wound.

Police quickly located the offender and seized the weapon, which turned out to be a 4.5 mm caliber air rifle.

After gathering sufficient evidence, the man was charged with animal cruelty leading to the animal's death. Under Ukrainian law, he could face up to three years of imprisonment.

The investigation is ongoing under the supervision of the Bereziv district prosecutor's office.
