Man Arrested for Illegal Weapon Modification Charges
A man has been charged under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, and preventive measures have been chosen. He faces a significant prison term.
Officers from the Strategic Investigations Department of the National Police in Odessa, along with investigators from the Odessa District Police and the Security Service of Ukraine, conducted operations to uncover criminal activities.
According to law enforcement, a 42-year-old man set up a workshop in his garage for modifying firearms. He ordered models of firearms and parts online, then made modifications to turn them into real firearms, which he sold in the Odessa region.
Police documented a sale of modified firearms for 39,000 hryvnias. The suspect was arrested while attempting to send another shipment of weapons to a buyer.
Investigators conducted a total of 10 searches at the suspect’s vehicle, residence, workplace, garages, and other accessible premises, seizing items resembling weapon models, bullets, shells, magazines for various types of firearms, and equipment used for manufacturing and modifying firearms. All items have been sent for expert examination.
They also seized cash in both foreign and national currencies, which the suspect likely received from weapon sales. Police will determine their origin during the investigation.
Currently, the suspect has been informed of charges for illegal modification of firearms and illegal possession and sale of firearms without legal permission. The court has chosen a preventive measure of detention with the right to post bail of 908,400 hryvnias.
The maximum penalty the suspect faces is seven years of imprisonment.
Investigative actions are ongoing. The procedural oversight in the case is performed by the Kyiv District Prosecutor's Office of Odessa.
